[L-R]: Marybeth canvasses door-to-door in Denver; Marybeth with other CO-WINS participants.
Local 888 member Marybeth Phillips, from Quincy, recently went to Denver Colorado to work for Colorado WINS (Workers for Innovations and New Solutions). CO WINS works with the state to improve public services, working conditions, safety, staff attrition, employee benefits and more.
Because Colorado is a “Right to Work” state where public workers have no collective bargaining rights, three of the state’s employee organizations (SEIU, AFT, & AFSCME) decided to pool their resources for a stronger voice. SEIU members from across the country came together to knock on doors, phone bank and do work site visits to increase their membership and political power.
Marybeth worked with SEIU members from California for a week of long hours and hard work. “I would definitely do it again because I believe all workers need a voice and have the right to organize,” said Marybeth.
