Administrative Guild

Boston, MA 02108
7/22/2008 Grievance victory!

The Administrative Guild recently won grievances regarding Guild work performed by non-Guild employees at the Greater Egleston Community High School and the Mission Hill K-8 School. Both schools will now have a guild position in the organizational makeup for FY09. Check the hub in mid-August to see the postings.

4/10/08 Contract Update:
Thank you to the members who took the time on March 13th to cast their vote for our contract. The contract was presented to School Committee on April 9th and was approved. It will now move forward to the Boston City Council for approval.

As part of the contract our health insurance will increase. The amount of the increase was e-mailed to you by Kristen Daley. It is important that you look at the increases before the open enrollment period ends on May 2, 2008. If you choose to change coverage or are eligible for the “Opt-out” benefit, you must do so during the open enrollment period.

In times of change it is important that we stay “Stronger Together”,
Nancy LaCroix

Dear Members,

Thank you to all who attended the membership meeting on Monday, March 3rd. It was good to see all of you. I feel that the Negotiation Team worked extremely hard to obtain the contract that has been presented to you. I hope that we answered any and all questions you might have had regarding the contract and hope that you will take the time to vote on March 13th at the following places and times:

 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. @ 26 Court Street, Winter Chambers
 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. @ Campbell Resource Center, Media Room (downstairs)

In response to the questions regarding layoffs I can only tell you that the Executive Board will work diligently to maintain as many of our positions as possible. I have contacted Richard Stutman, President of the BTU, in hopes that we can work together to maintain the ETF and ETF Clerk positions.

As I receive more information regarding the Superintendent’s plans I will keep you updated.

Thank you for all the support,
Nancy LaCroix

Highlights of the Contract

March 3rd Meeting Announcement:

There will be an Administrative Guild Membership Meeting Monday, March 3rd, 2008 at 5:00 PM at the Campbell Resource Center.

Note: the membership meeting on February 4th is cancelled.

Dear Members,

To all of the members that walked the picket line and those that couldn’t make it in body but were there in spirit, I want to thank you for the support. I feel we have the attention of the Superintendent and appreciated that Superintendent Johnson acknowledged that we are a valuable part of the Boston Public Schools, but this is not enough. We have taken one small step in attaining a fair contract but the road and is long and full of pit falls. We must stay “Stronger Together”

I would also like to acknowledge City Councilor President Maureen Feeney’s support. We will need to make all of our politicians aware of our goal and encourage them to support us as we have supported them.

Once again a great big THANK YOU,

Nancy LaCroix

Contract Negotiations have broken down between the Boston School Department & The Administrative Guild, SEIU Local 888

After almost 2 years of negotiations, we have reached an impasse. We expect management to file for mediation. The issues dividing us are:

Fair and equitable raises – do we deserve any less than other City contracts?

Quality work done by qualified members: you should have a right to a position over someone from outside of the bargaining unit

Preserving our hard-fought gains of the past: the School Dept wants to take away the two 501 days now in our contract

LET’S STICK TOGETHER FOR A FAIR CONTRACT!
THE SCHOOL DEPT. DOESN’T SEEM TO CARE ABOUT YOUR RIGHTS OR YOUR MORALE.

Here’s what you can do to show them you care:

1) attend crucial membership meeting:
Monday, November 26th at 5 pm, Campbell Resource Center

2) Contact your local politicians and ask them to help our fight for a fair contract!

3) stand up and be counted at the informational picket at Court Street on Wednesday, November 28TH at 5 pm
(Transportation provided, to reserve a seat contact Evelyn Thorpe at 635-8030.)
