Administrative Guild Updates 5/5/2010
Turnaround Schools:
A memo was sent to all Guild members in the 7 Refresh/Turnaround Schools that will be impacted immediately. The memo contained the proposed school hours, the new principal/headmaster, and a letter of intent for those Guild members in the school that would like to re-apply for their position.
The next step is for the Labor Management team to go over the Stakeholders proposals and present our proposal. If an agreement can not be reached it would then be submitted to an arbitrator.
ETF Clerks:
KC Grogan met with the Labor Management Team and presented the proposal for the newly created job descriptions for ETF clerks.
* The proposal is to have 32 ETF clerks assigned to multiple schools. You would no longer be working directly for one ETF but would serve 3 to 5 schools.
* There would be 5 ETF clerks assigned to support the 22 Citywide ETF’s. These five positions would all be centrally located and would jointly support all Citywide’s.
* The remaining 8 would be called SEIMS Support Technicians and their job would be to support all ETF’s with technical support for the new SEIMS system. This position would require travel throughout the school system.
ADMINISTRATIVE GUILD NEWSLETTER JANUARY, 2010
I am writing a letter to the membership regarding your responsibilities as members and to remind you that the Executive Board is not the only members of the Guild and all of you need to step up and get involved. This E-Board will not be around forever. That retirement is coming up for some, and people need to fill those shoes.
You may not like what I am saying, but I feel it needs to be said. Other E-Board members have fought long and hard for every member and will most likely be ready to leave (retire) after the next contract is done.
Members need to be reminded that complaining doesn't help. Help fix what may be broken. Not talk about it. Stop having demands and never lending a hand. Making this unit better starts with you. This unit has lost so many jobs and at the rate of new management staff you had better be more vigilant regarding what is going on in your workplace and rumors you may hear in reference to positions being cut or titles names changing.
Members you are the Eyes and Ears of the Union. I made a statement at the last Membership meeting that I would see that a Newsletter was printed. I also asked that members send me any information that they wanted to have placed in the Newsletter. I haven’t got anything yet. Send info regarding the events your school is having, Pictures of you in your Office. Anything you would like to share and that you may be proud of, new Grandchild, Graduation (yours) in your family, Anniversaries etc. If you know a Secretary that could use a comforting phone call let us know.
I know we don’t have a contract book like most of you are use to, but you can go on line at www.seiu888.org and go to Chapters and click on Administrative Guild. You will find the contract there. Please read it familiarize yourself with it.
This unit needs member to form committees, such as:
Welcome Team
COPE Fund Raising Team
Survey Members for things they would like to see for the Next Contract (Contract Survey Attached!)
Sign up for Stewards’ Trainings / there very important and help you understand your rights and the Union better.
Truly yours,
Evelyn Thorpe
