Legislative Advisory: Municipal GIC

In recent weeks, State House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi has publicly supported giving municipal leaders unilateral authority to join the state Group Insurance Commission.

Join MassCOSH for Workers' Memorial Day

While everyone is looking forward to spring and the warmer weather that comes with it, MassCOSH recognizes that yet another year has passed. And although we’ve made great strides toward ensuring that all jobs are safe and healthy, sadly we must remember and commemorate those who were injured and who lost their lives while at work in 2007.

"March Forth" for Child Care Funding

Access to child care and Head Start is vital to working parents economic well-being and the ability of their children to succeed in school. The Bush administration’s proposed FY 2009 budget would continue the long-standing pattern of freezes and cuts to child care and Head Start funding. Under Bush's proposed budget, 200,000 low-income children and their families would lose child care assistance, and 14,000 children would lose Head Start.

Act for a Healthy Massachusetts Passes Senate

Thanks to the many calls and emails made by SEIU 888 members, the Act for a Healthy Massachusetts (SB 2481, Formerly HB783/SB558), which reduces toxic chemicals in workplaces and communities across the Commonwealth, was passed unanimously by the State Senate this week.

We expect the chemical industry lobby to continue to fight the legislation as it moves now to the House of Representatives for consideration. Please click here to email your State Representative to urge their support for the Safer Alternatives Bill.
