📢Upcoming Hearing: Support Collective Bargaining Rights for CPCS Workers

🗓 Date: Monday, September 22, 2025
🕐 Time: 1:00 PM
📍 Location: Massachusetts State House, Room A-2 and Virtual
📂 Committee: Joint Committee on Public Service (JPSR)
📄 Bill: SB1873 (SD386) – An Act relative to the collective bargaining rights for employees of the Committee for Public Counsel Services

SEIU Local 888 proudly supports SB1873, critical legislation that would formally recognize the Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) as the legal employer of its staff and attorneys—granting them the same collective bargaining rights as other public workers in Massachusetts.

This bill strengthens Chapter 150E of the Massachusetts General Laws by:

✅ Naming CPCS or its designee as the official employer for legal employees
✅ Updating Section 1 and Section 7 to reflect CPCS as a public employer alongside other agencies
✅ Ensuring public defenders and legal staff are treated with fairness and respect under the law

✊ Why This Matters

CPCS staff deliver essential legal services to low-income residents across the Commonwealth. They deserve the right to organize, negotiate fair contracts, and be heard—just like every other public sector worker.

📣 Show your support by attending the hearing in person or virtually. Together, we fight for justice—at work and in the courtroom.
